More About Me / Us
I am a classically trained architect with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Ohio State University and a Master of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology—The Chicago School
Growing up in rural Ohio, my childhood was spent in workshops and hangars—tinkering with my grandparents on vintage airplanes, woodworking, rebuilding my first truck with my stepfather, controlled dives in an old Cessna with my dad, running trusses, absorbing everything my mom taught me about leadership and creating moments—all of these experiences shaped my creative process and continue to influence every project I undertake.
After stepping away from traditional architecture for five years to work hands-on in construction, I gained invaluable insight into the builder’s perspective. That time on the other side of the process taught me how to bridge the gap between design and execution—ensuring that what we imagine together is what ultimately gets built.
Architecture is the rare profession where romance meets science. Since 2011, what began as a passion for bringing people together and the want and need to stay small—Justified Design Collaborative—has evolved into a truly collaborative practice. By staffing projects with trusted independent contractors and collaborators, rather than maintaining the typical firm overhead, I’ve crafted an agile, personalized approach that keeps me hands-on and engaged—from the first pen stroke to the final nail.
With a Reverential Modernist approach, I draw from the past to design for the future—honoring time-tested principles that continue to shape enduring spaces. Saving old buildings is one of my passions, large or small, but there is nothing like seeing sunlight hit the side of a new structure, rising from the ground to meet the sky for the first time. You will often find me working on your designs in the Metroparks or immersed in other creative environments that foster biophilic integration—crafting holistic living experiences through architecture.
My Home and Studio, is always open and it stands as living testament to exploration and evolution of a building—showcasing what we tried in the old renovation; what succeeded, and what didn’t. More importantly, it offers a window into a lifestyle where passion, love, and deep respect for the built environment converge—revealing not just what architecture gives us, but what we, in turn, can offer it.
This is my method. This is my world. And I welcome you into it—while I help build yours!
